The course is based on the need to implement Environmental Management Systems. and analyzing the factors influencing the management of port activities which impact the environment. Students will understand the range of environmental issues and their impact on ports and be able to describe the actions and policies to ensure environmental protection, alongside the promotion of the port's business strategies. The course highlights the contradiction that exists between the economic development of a port and the environmental constraints imposed by the institutional and legal framework. Within this framework  questions regarding the scope of environmental monitoring and the relationship of the Environmental Terms resulting from the EIA and the licensing of the ports and the role of ESPO and the management and certification tools it offers to European ports, are discussed.
